Damp Proofing in Aberffraw

Extensions such as garage conversions will usually require additional damp proofing to be installed as part of conversion, as the existing garage will often have a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not designed to comply with building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing should be put into walls and floors. Additionally, the roof of the garage conversion will require water proofing. The damp proofing of the floor of the garage conversion will usually be achieved by utilising a damp proof membrane. This membrane will come in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be put down either on top of the pre-existing concrete floor, underneath the new floor, or as part of both, depending on whether the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In a few garages, the walls will have already been damp proofed, but this may need to be updated as part of the conversion in order to meet current building regulations. The walls will need to be damp proofed to be able to safeguard the brickwork from rotting slowly as moisture sets in. This is performed by either making use of damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls already present in the garage. Damp proofing is an important part of the building regulations that the garage conversion will need to adhere to, therefore is it vital to ensure that your garage conversion makes use of appropriate damp proofing methods.

Aberffraw

Aberffraw is a village on the south west coast of the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. It is by the west bank of the River Ffraw, hence its name. In 2011 the community had a population of 620. In the Middle Ages, Aberffraw was the centre of the Kingdom of Gwynedd from 860 AD until 1170. Until the 13th century, the royal palace stayed as the symbolic throne of the Kings of Gwynedd.

There is a great deal of history behind Aberffraw. There is a Neolithic burial chamber situated there called Barclodiad y Gawres. The community also has a small island called Cribinau with the 13th century church of Saint Cwfan in the middle. The church is still used for the occasional wedding and summer services. St Beuno's Church on Aberffraw itself is from the 12th century and is a Grade II* listed building.

Bae Trecastle, or Cable Bay, is on the Anglesey Coastal Path and its beach was awarded the Blue Flag rural beach award in 2005. It is popular with holidaymakers and residents alike.
