Damp Proofing in Abberley

Extensions such as garage conversions will often require extra damp proofing to be installed as part of conversion, as the pre-existing garage will often have a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not built to be in accordance with building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing will need to be put into walls and floors. Additionally, the roofing of the garage conversion will need water proofing. The damp proofing for the floor of the garage conversion will most likely be achieved by by using a damp proof membrane. This membrane is available in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be put down either on top of the pre-existing concrete floor, underneath the new floor, or as part of both, depending on whether the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In some garages, the walls have already been damp proofed, but this might have to be updated as part of the conversion to be able to comply with current building regulations. The walls will need to be damp proofed to be able to safeguard the brickwork from rotting gradually as moisture sets in. This can be performed by either applying damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls that are already present in the garage. Damp proofing is a part of the building regulations that the garage conversion will need to adhere to, therefore is it vital to make sure that your garage conversion employs suitable damp proofing methods.

Abberley

Abberley is a small village in North West Worcestershire, England. It lies between the River Severn and River Teme. It had a population of 830 in 2001.

There are three sides to the village of Abberley. The oldest part, The Village, has been around since the 12th and 13th century. The Common is the most populated part of the village and has a village shop and post office. There is also the primary school and village hall in this area. The Hill is mostly farmland, with some houses and cottages standing on the steep slopes of Abberley Hill.

Abberley Hall is on the opposite side of Abberley Hill. It was previously a country house until 1916 when preparatory school Abberley Hall School moved its premises there.

There are two churches in Abberley. The longest-standing is the ruined St. Michael's Church, however the chancel was restored and is still used for some services. St. Mary's Church was built between 1850 and 1852 to take over from St. Michael's to the north of the village.
