Wingate
Wingate is a town in County Durham, England. Wingate is a former pit town with a combination of 19th-century, post-war, and much more recent housing developments. It was originally occupied by around 30 farmers prior to 1839 when coal was uncovered. It lies in the East of County Durham, three miles southern west of Peterlee, and also 7 miles north west of Hartlepool. Similar to the majority of towns in the location, it proliferated with the development of coal-mining in the area. The name Wingate is stated to originate from the Anglo-Saxon words windig (gusty) and geat (road) significance windy road. Like all County Durham villages, homeowners are understood to speak the pitmatic language although brand-new housing developments has seen a sharp rise in the town's population. An electoral ward in the very same name exists. This ward extends north east to Peterlee and also has a total population, taken at the 2011 census, of 10,302.
