Pevensey
Pevensey is a town as well as civil parish in the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. The primary town is located five miles (8 km) north-east of Eastbourne, one mile (1.6 kilometres) inland from Pevensey Bay. The settlement of Pevensey Bay develops part of the parish. It was here that William the Conqueror made the landing in his intrusion of England in 1066 after crossing the English Channel from Normandy, France. In 1207 the community was approved an imperial charter by King John as well as was controlled by Pevensey Corporation. With the decline in the community's significance by the 19th century, the Corporation was eventually dissolved in 1886 and the community shed its borough status. The documents of the Corporation are kept in the East Sussex Record Office at Lewes, as well as a volunteer body, the Pevensey Town Trust, was created to take care of the residential or commercial property which had actually formerly belonged to the Corporation, most especially the Old Court House. Pevensey is now a village, with a parish council consisting of twelve elected councillors. Three councillors are elected to the Wealden District Council to stand for Pevensey; the Member of Parliament is Hugh Merriman, that represents the Bexhill as well as Battle Constituency, of which Pevensey is component. Pevensey is likewise part of the selecting ward called Pevensey and Westham. The population of this ward at the 2011 Census was 9,467.
