Faringdon is a historic market town in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, England. Within the historic limits of Berkshire, it is 18 miles (29 km) south-west of Oxford, 10 miles (16 km) north-west of Wantage as well as 12 miles (19 km) east-north-east of Swindon. Faringdon was the westernmost community in Berkshire up until the 1974 boundary adjustments moved it to Oxfordshire. The civil church is formally Wonderful Faringdon to identify it from Little Faringdon in West Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census provided a population of 7,121. On 1 February 2004, Faringdon was given Fairtrade Town status, as the very first Fairtrade Town in South East England.
