Campbeltown
Campbeltown (population 4,852) is a community as well as previous royal burgh in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It lies by Campbeltown Loch on the Kintyre peninsula. Initially known as Kinlochkilkerran (an anglicization of the Gaelic, which indicates "head of the loch by the kirk of Ciarán"), it was relabelled in the 17th century as Campbell's Town after Archibald Campbell (Earl of Argyle) was provided the website in 1667. Campbeltown came to be a crucial centre for Scotch whisky, as well as an active angling port.
