Alexandria is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The town is situated on the River Leven, 4 miles (six km) north-west of Dumbarton. In 2001, the population of the town was 13,444. It's the biggest town inside the Vale of Leven. Alexandria developed on account of the textile industry. In 1715, the very first bleachfields in the area were created at Dalquhurn, attracting seasonal labour from Argyll.
