It has the earliest rock bridge in the Highlands as well as the neighboring old ache woodland contains the Landmark Forest Adventure Park. Carrbridge has to do with 10 kilometres (6 mi) north of Aviemore and also creates a portal to the Cairngorms National Forest. It was a very early centre for winter sports in Scotland. In the 2001 census the town had a population of 708 individuals, with the bulk employed in tourism. Until the 1980s bypass was created, the A9 ran directly via the village. Carrbridge is served by Carrbridge railway station on the Highland Main Line. Neighborhood dispute still rages regarding the name Carrbridge itself, with some favoring to see it hyphenated to Carr-bridge. The word "Carr" has nothing to do with motorised transport yet is derived from the Old Norse word for boggy area.
