Composite Doors in Dumbarton

Do you wish to swap your front door? There are lots of options available to you but none of them as well-liked as composite doors. So why is this particular type of door the nation’s preferred and why would you think about it for your own house?

There are many reasons to choose a composite door. For starters they look amazing and there's a wide variety of choice in the design and style from which to choose. If you would like a modern-day appeal then you can get exactly that, with contemporary designs to go together with the times. However, if you want the charm of standard front doors, you can also find Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian designs to select from.

Moreover you can decide on a colour that properly matches your property. Whether you choose a traditional white or black door, or might prefer the daring red, blue or green, the final decision is yours.

But why don't you consider the composite door’s other features? In addition to a strong appearance, you benefit from great insulation and a hardwearing, resistant installation. The construction of the door guarantees heat is unable to pass thorough and exit your home, decreasing your expensive energy bills.

Composite doorways are produced to resist impacts and the weather too, lasting for decades with practically no maintenance. A GRP (Glass reinforced plastic) skin helps you to protect the front door making sure it continues to look great for a long time to come.

Dumbarton

Translating as 'fort of the Britons', Dumbarton is a town in West Dunbartonshire. It is on the north bank of the River Clyde where the River Leven encounters the Clyde estuary in Scotland. Traditionally, Dumbarton was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Alclud, and afterwards the county town of Dunbartonshire, being a Royal burgh in between 1222 and 1975. Overlooking the town is Dumbarton Castle, located atop Dumbarton Rock, which has a long history, recognised in particular for its significant role in the War of Independence by being the prison of William Wallace after his capture by the English. As a Scheduled Ancient Monument, Dumbarton Rock is lawfully preserved from any sort of work taking place on the rock, including prohibiting such activities as rock climbing. Dumbarton was bombed on a large scale during the 2nd World War, as the German air force was targeting shipyards, with Clyde and Leven Street being profoundly affected. Decoy lights were commonly put on the Kilpatrick hills above the town and on storage tanks in the effort to imitate those of the shipyards and to outwit the bombing planes, which had a reasonable amount of success. Eventhough Dumbarton was known for its shipbuilding, glassmaking and whisky production, the decline of these markets in the 20th century has suggested that it is predominantly a commuter town for its 20527 occupants. The town is the home of Dumbarton F.C., playing in the Scottish Professional Football League at Scottish Championship level. The Denny Civic Theatre is used by a wide array of local groups, such as the Dumbarton People's Theatre who put on multiple performances. For all your house upgrades, make sure to make use of trusted specialists in Dumbarton to make certain of quality.

FAQs

what are composite doors made of?

As the name suggests, composite doors are made up of multiple components or materials which includes uPVC and foam or solid timber core, just to mention a few. Individual materials incorporated manufacturing a composite door plays their own important role with unique properties which are perfectly blended to give the strongest and most durable door materials currently available in the market. These materials are pressed and glued together as they’re subjected to high pressure conditions.

The need to counteract the weaknesses found in most single material doors, ultimately gave birth to the development of composite doors - which puts together several materials with specific properties to cancel out each others’ excesses or weaknesses. Purchasing a composite door means a valuable investment in a sturdy door frame manufactured using the toughest and most robust materials. In other words, you’re increasing the security of your home, enjoying the weatherproofing qualities of the door and also giving you a peace of mind knowing both your loved ones and properties are safe, well protected and secured. Apart from the materials used in making the door, you’re also provided with an array of choices when it comes to the personalization of the door to your needs and taste. You can choose from a variety of colours, woodgrain effects, textures as well as finishes.

Overall, composite doors also requires little maintenance and are very durable. Due to the modern techniques used in manufacturing a composite door, the colour as well as beauty is guaranteed to last a very long time. What’s more? Generally, the composite is weather and fade resistant so you won’t have to worry about spending either time or money for the care or maintenance of your door even after frequent or heavy usage.

Can you paint composite doors?

Composite doors have coloured skins rather than a coloured coating on their surface. This means that their colour is long-lasting and they don’t need repainting. If you want to change the colour of your composite door it’s best to ask the manufacturer about the best way to do this. This is because different composite doors are finished in different ways.

how to fit a composite door?

Composite door fitting can be a DIY project but it’s essential to have the necessary training and experience before commencement. If not, we’d recommend you hire the services of a reliable professional to guarantee the best results and save yourself some time and money. Here, we’ll give a good insight into the composite door fitting process.

To get started, here are some of the tools that may be required - tape measure, hammer, stanley knife, crowbar, chisel, saw. Silicone sealant gun, spirit levels, electric drill ( including the hammer section), rubber mallet and 6mm socket spanner.

lPreparation

• Remove the existing door by rounding up the door frame firstly with a knife to reduce the possible damage to the wall.

• Cut through the door jambs.

• Remove each in two separate sections.

• Ensure the opening is level without any screws, mastic and filler.

lAlign Your Composite Door

• Ensure the sill of the door is level and flat.

• Bridge the cavity of the wall and cover the DPC

• Ensure that the frame is square. If not, your composite door won’t function as it should.

lInstall Your Composite Door

• Place the door in the frame.

• Hold the frame firmly in position with wedge packers

• Make sure the packers are positioned close to where the fixing will be placed.

• Make sure the jams are square and plumb in all planes by using a long spirit level.

• Secure the frame to the brickwork with the use of a drill.

• Place the fixings at the top and bottom of each hinge as well as each of the lock keep.

• Top fixings should be fitted 150mm and 250mm from each corner.

can you put a composite door in a upvc frame?

More often than not, when we think about replacing our old or existing door with a new unit, we tend to get a bit creative. We think about the panel to use, but often forget about the door’s frame which is just as important. The frame is way beyond an ordinary trimming that serves as a boundary for the slabs, it also ensures the door opens with ease and also sees that heat are being locked in and security is tight. There are a variety of frame options available when fitting a new door, and putting a composite door in a uPVC frame is one. In this article, we’ll give you an idea of the great effects of composite door and uPVC frame combination and help you make informed decision about the best setup that’ll perfectly satisfy all your doorway needs and budget.

Putting a composite door in a uPVC frame or a uPVC door in a composite frame is without a doubt the most popular door/frame combinations. In fact, you’d be shocked just how well a composite door and uPVC frame complements and supports each other in either alteration. If you’re the type that likes the unmatched levels of insulation, visual appeal as well as security that’s provided by composite doors, fitting this in a UPVC frame is really one that’ll set you apart. This combination is the most loved and for a good reason. You’ll get to open your door with ease while it also remains weathertight, save some money using the usually less costly uPVC frames and ultimately, combine the strengths of both materials incorporated. What’s more? It’s an opportunity for you to make a striking impression on all your visitors.
