Appleby-in-westmorland

Appleby-in-Westmorland is a market town and civil parish in the Eden district, in the management region of Cumbria, in North West England. The church had a population of 3,048 in 2011. It lies in a loop of the River Eden in the historic area of Westmorland, of which it was the county town. Its name was merely Appleby up until the local government adjustments of 1974. When a follower church was created from the previous district, the council transformed its name to record that of the historic region.
