Pevensey
Pevensey is a village and also civil parish in the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. The major town is located 5 miles (8 kilometres) north-east of Eastbourne, one mile (1.6 kilometres) inland from Pevensey Bay. The negotiation of Pevensey Bay forms part of the parish. It was below that William the Conqueror made the touchdown in his invasion of England in 1066 after crossing the English Channel from Normandy, France. In 1207 the town was given a royal charter by King John as well as was controlled by Pevensey Corporation. With the decrease in the community's significance by the 19th century, the Corporation was ultimately liquified in 1886 as well as the community lost its district status. The documents of the Corporation are kept in the East Sussex Record Office at Lewes, as well as a voluntary body, the Pevensey Town Trust, was formed to take care of the building which had previously belonged to the Corporation, most notably the Old Court House. Pevensey is currently a village, with a parish council containing twelve chosen councillors. 3 councillors are chosen to the Wealden Area Council to represent Pevensey; the Member of Parliament is Hugh Merriman, that represents the Bexhill as well as Battle Constituency, of which Pevensey is component. Pevensey is also part of the selecting ward called Pevensey as well as Westham. The population of this ward at the 2011 Census was 9,467.
