Battle
Battle is a town and civil parish in the local government district of Rother in East Sussex, England. It exists 50 miles (80 kilometres) south-east of London, 30 miles (50 km) east of Brighton and 20 miles (30 kilometres) east of Lewes. Hastings is to the south-east and also Bexhill-on-Sea to the south. Battle is in the marked High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and also is a tourist destination and traveler town for white collar employees in the City of London. The parish population was 6,048 according to the 2001 census, raising to 6,673 with the 2011 Census. Battle is the site of the Battle of Hastings, where William, Duke of Normandy, beat King Harold II to become William I in 1066.
