The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is a borough in southwest London, England. The principle town is Kingston upon Thames and it contains Surbiton, Chessington, New Malden, Tolworth and part of Worcester Park. It is the oldest of the 4 Royal Boroughs in England. The other boroughs are Kensington and Chelsea and Greenwich also in London, and Windsor and Maidenhead. The borough covers a total area of about 14.38 square miles.
Based on population estimates in the middle of 2014, Kingston upon Thames has a permanent population of around 169958 inhabitants. It has no current connections with London Overground that serves adjacent Richmond or London Tramlink that serves Wimbledon in the neighbouring borough of Merton. It has nine National Rail stations and two centrally located bus stations. In 2008, 64 bus routes served Kingston. In March 2011, the main forms of transport that residents used to travel to work were driving a car or van, used by 26.1 percent of all residents aged 16-74 and train, used by 7.1 per cent, and bus, minibus or coach, used by 7.1 per cent.
Kingston has numerous attractions in and close to it, ranging from nature attractions and historical attractions to theme parks. This consists of Richmond Park, that is among the world's biggest urban parks, and 3 times the size of Central Park in New York City.
