Heating | Gas | Boiler Replacement in Birmingham
Very good
The heating system is amongst the most crucial parts of the home. Your boiler provides you with heat and hot water all through the year and the odds are you take little notice of it. Why would you if it's rolling out warmth through the year without having a problem?
But exactly how expensive are your energy bills? Did you know that changing your central heating boiler will save you over £300 annually on bills due to the enhanced efficiency? If your boiler is in excess of 10-years old, then the odds are there's an enormous saving to make.
However, spending money on a new boiler isn't the most affordable of house improvements. It's not the priciest either, and you can be looking at between £1,500 and £2,000 for a very efficient combi boiler.
To help combat this initial price you might contemplate boiler finance. With finance you'll pay back a regular monthly fee for however long you choose to cover the price of the boiler. This could be as few as 12 months and certainly helps people who can't afford the entire one-off payment.
In case your central heating boiler breaks down suddenly too, you may want to think about boiler finance with no money readily accessible in the bank. Boiler finance is perfect and although there is a small interest payment, it's a convenient option.
The average cost of replacing your gas boiler is £2,500. Costs differ based on the type and brand of boiler you choose as well as the provider you decide to go with. For example, a small local business may be able to offer a better price than a large national tradesman as they will have fewer overheads. Itâs best to get a range of quotes from different boiler engineers so you can compare prices, reviews and references before going ahead.

When your boiler is being replaced you won’t have hot water or central heating. If you don’t mind this you can stay in your home, and use portable electric heaters if needed. Most installers undertake a power flush before installing a new boiler now and this can cause muck and debris from the pipework, so you may wish to get out of the way while this is happening!
The size of boiler you need will depend on the size of your home, how many radiators and bathrooms you have and how many people live there. The boiler size refers to its output, which is measured in kilowatts (kW), rather than the actual dimensions. Speak to your boiler engineer about which boiler is suitable for you, as if you have more than one bathroom or a lot of people in your home a combi boiler might not suit you. Other boiler types such as system boilers or conventional boilers may be better suited to larger homes because they have bigger outputs.
The A-G scale refers to the energy efficiency of your boiler. G-rated boilers are the least efficient, and give you less heat and hot water for your money. Installing an A-rated boiler will reduce your energy bills and carbon emissions. Don't compromise on cheaper, lower rated boilers, you will save yourself more money longer term with an A-rated model.
Re-pressurising your boiler means that you allow more water to enter system via the filling loop. It can be easy to re-pressurise your boiler yourself. Always check your manual, but there are some simple steps you can take to restore pressure to your boiler:
• Switch off your boiler and let it cool completely
• Make sure both ends of your filling loop are attached
• Open both valves to allow cold water into the system – you’ll hear it start to move
• Look out for your pressure gauge to show 1.5 bar
• Close both valves
• Switch your boiler back on
• Undo both ends of your filling loop and remove it. Remember some water might come out, so be ready to catch some spillage!
