Heating | Gas | Boiler Replacement in Birmingham
Very good
The home heating system is among the most important areas of your household. Your boiler provides you with heat and hot water all year round and the chances are you take little notice of it. Why would you if it's rolling out heat through the year without having a problem?
But exactly how pricey are your energy costs? Did you know replacing your boiler could save you more than £300 annually on bills because of the improved performance? If your boiler is more than 10-years old, then the odds are there's a large saving to make.
However, paying for a new boiler isn't the most affordable of home improvements. It's not the priciest either, and you can be looking at between £1,500 and £2,000 for a very efficient combi central heating boiler.
To help combat this initial price tag you could contemplate central heating boiler finance. With finance you'll pay a regular monthly fee for however long you choose to cover the cost of the boiler. This can be as little as twelve months and definitely helps people who can't afford the full one-off payment.
In the event that your central heating boiler stops working abruptly too, you might like to take into consideration boiler finance without the funds easily available in the bank. Boiler finance is perfect and although there exists a small interest charge, it's a handy alternative.
The average cost of replacing your gas boiler is £2,500. Costs differ based on the type and brand of boiler you choose as well as the provider you decide to go with. For example, a small local business may be able to offer a better price than a large national tradesman as they will have fewer overheads. Itâs best to get a range of quotes from different boiler engineers so you can compare prices, reviews and references before going ahead.

Re-pressurising your boiler means that you allow more water to enter system via the filling loop. It can be easy to re-pressurise your boiler yourself. Always check your manual, but there are some simple steps you can take to restore pressure to your boiler:
• Switch off your boiler and let it cool completely
• Make sure both ends of your filling loop are attached
• Open both valves to allow cold water into the system – you’ll hear it start to move
• Look out for your pressure gauge to show 1.5 bar
• Close both valves
• Switch your boiler back on
• Undo both ends of your filling loop and remove it. Remember some water might come out, so be ready to catch some spillage!
A boiler is simply the most important part of a central heating system as it generates the heat that warms up the home or property. Basically, the appliance or small furnace makes use of gas, LPG or oil in order to fuel its operation. However in the UK, most boilers are usually fuelled by natural gas which is supplied automatically from the national gas grid. And depending on how it operates, there are various types of boilers.
Typically, a gas central heating boiler will have multiple pipes entering from underneath. While one pipe supplies the boiler with gas from the mains gas supply, another pipe allows cold water to enter the boiler to be heated, the last pipe then enables hot water to exit the boiler so it can be distributed around the home.
✓ There are fuel jets and heat exchangers inside the boiler. When the heating is turned on, a valve is opened to allow the mains supply gas to enter a sealed combustion chamber in the boiler. There are multiple little valves which permit the entry of the gas before being ignited by an electric ignition switch. These jets heat a metal component in the boiler known as a heat exchanger which works to transfer the heat to the cold water pipe and heat up the water.
✓ Once the water has been heated to the target temperature, it’s then pumped through a circuit of pipe which runs around your home by an electric pump.
✓ The heated water enter each radiator, is then transmitted via a closed loop and radiates heat into each room.
✓ Once done travelling through all radiators, the water then returns to the boiler at which it must have been cooled. Therefore, the boiler will have to reheat following the same process before circulating. The water can only be drained by a professional Gas Safe engineer
When your boiler is being replaced you won’t have hot water or central heating. If you don’t mind this you can stay in your home, and use portable electric heaters if needed. Most installers undertake a power flush before installing a new boiler now and this can cause muck and debris from the pipework, so you may wish to get out of the way while this is happening!
If you’re looking for a reliable or reputable source for your new gas boiler, you definitely won’t find much better than British Gas. Using a big firm like British Gas comes with a plethora of benefits , but of course there are also some drawbacks, with the boiler prices being the main one and biggest turn off for most homeowners. However, just before we delve straight in to the price, let’s look at a thing or two about the big company.
The company, “British Gas are not a boiler manufacturer as you probably would have first imagined. They’re actually a company that specializes in the installation of boilers. As a result, they’re able to install just about any type of boiler you can imagine from any manufacturer. Be it a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Style or a Baxi 600, they’re able to provide you with the cost of having these boilers installed in your home or property.
Combi boilers are perfect boilers for space-saving and this makes them very popular on the market. They’re also very efficient when it comes to heating water instantly and warm your in few minutes. The price of a new British Gas combi boiler varies on a number of factors. Generally, the installation prices of combi boilers start from £1,800. Therefore, if British Gas are to be competitive with their pricing it should also be around this price.
However, if you have a large house with several rooms with a higher demand for hot water, British Gas will most likely recommend boilers such as Worcester Bosch 440CDi and the likes. Judging from other firms in the market, the price to have these types installed should be in excess of £3,000.
