Very good
The heating system is among the most crucial areas of your house. Your central heating boiler will provide you with heat and hot water all year long and the chances are you take little notice of it. Why would you if it's churning out heat throughout the year without having a problem?
But wait, how expensive are your energy costs? Are you aware that swapping your central heating boiler could save you more than £300 annually on bills due to the improved efficiency? If your central heating boiler is in excess of 10-years old, then the chances are there's a massive saving to make.
Nevertheless, investing in a new boiler isn't the cheapest of house improvements. It's not the priciest either, and you could be looking at in between £1,500 and £2,000 for a very efficient combination central heating boiler.
To help overcome this initial cost you might consider central heating boiler finance. With finance you'll pay back a month-to-month fee for however long you choose to cover the price of the boiler. This might be as little as twelve months and of course helps those who can't pay the full one-off payment.
If your boiler breaks down abruptly as well, you might want to consider boiler finance without the money quickly accessible in the bank. Boiler finance is perfect and even though there exists a small interest charge, it's a helpful alternative.
The average cost of replacing your gas boiler is £2,500. Costs differ based on the type and brand of boiler you choose as well as the provider you decide to go with. For example, a small local business may be able to offer a better price than a large national tradesman as they will have fewer overheads. Itâs best to get a range of quotes from different boiler engineers so you can compare prices, reviews and references before going ahead.

Johnstone is a town in the council area and county of Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. It is located 3 miles west of Paisley, 12 miles west of the centre of the city of Glasgow and 12 miles north east of Kilwinning. Constituting a section of the largest conurbation in Scotland, Johnstone sits on the western boundary of the Greater Glasgow Urban Area. Johnstone was a planned neighborhood, which established around the house of Easter Cochrane, now called Johnstone Castle. Building and construction commenced in 1782 when the Laird George Houston accredited concepts for a range of residential seats forming the town centre. The building of 2 identical civic squares, Houstoun Square and Ludovic Square, and the town acquired its parish church by 1794. Coal mining began to bring wealth to Johnstone in the 19th century, with the population increasing to 5600 in 1831. Such a development in population meant the boost in slum conditions till the development of an area of the town to contain a substantial quantity of purpose-built residential estates, occurring in the 1930s. Much of Johnstone's history until industrialisation has faded away, with Johnstone Castle coming to be derelict after the last Laird passed away in 1931. The town's population of 15687 is well-connected to the rest of Scotland because of its distance to effective transport links. A dual carriageway links Johnstone to the M8 motorway for transportation links to central Scotland, and the town includes two railway stations with frequent trains to Glasgow Central, Paisley and the Ayrshie Coast. Those wishing to travel more afar are 3.5 miles away from Glasgow International Airport and 40 minutes away by train from Prestwick International Airport. A boiler is simply the most important part of a central heating system as it generates the heat that warms up the home or property. Basically, the appliance or small furnace makes use of gas, LPG or oil in order to fuel its operation. However in the UK, most boilers are usually fuelled by natural gas which is supplied automatically from the national gas grid. And depending on how it operates, there are various types of boilers.
Typically, a gas central heating boiler will have multiple pipes entering from underneath. While one pipe supplies the boiler with gas from the mains gas supply, another pipe allows cold water to enter the boiler to be heated, the last pipe then enables hot water to exit the boiler so it can be distributed around the home.
✓ There are fuel jets and heat exchangers inside the boiler. When the heating is turned on, a valve is opened to allow the mains supply gas to enter a sealed combustion chamber in the boiler. There are multiple little valves which permit the entry of the gas before being ignited by an electric ignition switch. These jets heat a metal component in the boiler known as a heat exchanger which works to transfer the heat to the cold water pipe and heat up the water.
✓ Once the water has been heated to the target temperature, it’s then pumped through a circuit of pipe which runs around your home by an electric pump.
✓ The heated water enter each radiator, is then transmitted via a closed loop and radiates heat into each room.
✓ Once done travelling through all radiators, the water then returns to the boiler at which it must have been cooled. Therefore, the boiler will have to reheat following the same process before circulating. The water can only be drained by a professional Gas Safe engineer
If you’re looking for a reliable or reputable source for your new gas boiler, you definitely won’t find much better than British Gas. Using a big firm like British Gas comes with a plethora of benefits , but of course there are also some drawbacks, with the boiler prices being the main one and biggest turn off for most homeowners. However, just before we delve straight in to the price, let’s look at a thing or two about the big company.
The company, “British Gas are not a boiler manufacturer as you probably would have first imagined. They’re actually a company that specializes in the installation of boilers. As a result, they’re able to install just about any type of boiler you can imagine from any manufacturer. Be it a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Style or a Baxi 600, they’re able to provide you with the cost of having these boilers installed in your home or property.
Combi boilers are perfect boilers for space-saving and this makes them very popular on the market. They’re also very efficient when it comes to heating water instantly and warm your in few minutes. The price of a new British Gas combi boiler varies on a number of factors. Generally, the installation prices of combi boilers start from £1,800. Therefore, if British Gas are to be competitive with their pricing it should also be around this price.
However, if you have a large house with several rooms with a higher demand for hot water, British Gas will most likely recommend boilers such as Worcester Bosch 440CDi and the likes. Judging from other firms in the market, the price to have these types installed should be in excess of £3,000.
When your boiler is being replaced you won’t have hot water or central heating. If you don’t mind this you can stay in your home, and use portable electric heaters if needed. Most installers undertake a power flush before installing a new boiler now and this can cause muck and debris from the pipework, so you may wish to get out of the way while this is happening!
A combination boiler, also referred to as a “combi boiler, delivers both domestic hot water and space heating in a single package so as to save space, and in a lot of cases, money. These great features makes the appliance a very popular choice in UK homes and in fact, it represents more than 50 percent of all new boilers fitted in the UK on a yearly basis.
Most modern and high efficiency combi boilers are usually stainless steel condensing boilers which normally features an in-built secondary heat exchanger to deliver domestic hot water to a home or property. What’s more? When it comes to the heating season or the cold months, the combi boiler will operated as required to heat a structure and offer hot water for showers, sinks as well as other hot water appliances around the house. And when it gets to the warm season or summer months, the combi boiler will only work when there’s a need for domestic hot water which also helps you save more money.
Combi boilers are able to provide domestic hot water in such a way that’s energy efficient due to two primary reasons - the combi units possess a very high operating efficiency and also have a low internal water volume. As a result, in during the hot summer when space heating is not required, you’ll only have to pay to heat up the hot water that you really need and not an entire tank.
Combi boilers also have the following benefits:
✓ Lower costs. Due to the combined nature of the boiler and the lack of tank in the roof space, the installation time and costs are at a minimum.
✓ Saves space in your home as it effectively combines a central heating boiler with a water heater into one unit.
