Bodmin is a civil parish and significant town in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It's located south-west of Bodmin Moor. The extent of the civil parish corresponds fairly closely to that town so is mainly urban in character. It's bordered towards the east by Cardinham parish, towards the southeast by Lanhydrock parish, towards the southwest and west by Lanivet parish, and towards the north by Helland parish. At the time of the 2001 Census, Bodmin had a permanent population of around 12,778 individuals. This population had increased to around 15,000 by the 2011 Census. The town used to be the county town of Cornwall till the Crown Courts transferred to Truro, which is also the administrative centre. Bodmin was in the administrative North Cornwall District till local government reorganisation in 2009 abolished the District. The town is part of the North Cornwall parliamentary constituency. Bodmin Town Council is composed of 16 councillors who are elected to each serve a term of four years. Each year, the Council elects 1 of its number as Mayor to serve as the town's civic leader and to chair council meetings. Bodmin Beacon Local Nature Reserve is the hill which overlooks the town.
