Langport
Langport is a small town as well as civil parish in Somerset, England, 5 miles (8.0 kilometres) west of Somerton in the South Somerset district. The church (which covers just part of the community) has a population of 1,081. Langport is contiguous with Huish Episcopi, a separate parish that includes much of the community's borders. Langport lies on the eastern bank of the River Parrett, listed below the point where that river is joined by the River Yeo (Ivel). There is a causeway throughout the moor as well as a vital bridge over the river. Below Langport the Parrett is tidal. The rivers flow from the southerly hillsides through Thorney Moor and also Kings Moor, with a space between the upland areas around Somerton and also Curry Rivel, onto the Somerset Levels whereby it moves previous Bridgwater to the Bristol Channel. During the winter months the low-lying areas around Langport are occasionally swamped. The community falls within the Non-metropolitan district of South Somerset, which was based on 1 April 1974 under the City Government Act 1972, having formerly belonged to Langport Rural Area. The area council is in charge of local preparation as well as structure control, local roads, council housing, environmental health, markets and fairs, reject collection as well as recycling, cemeteries as well as crematoria, leisure solutions, parks, and also tourist.
