Gorebridge
Gorebridge is a former mining village in Midlothian, Scotland. The village gets its name from the bridge across the River Gore, a tributary of the South Esk. It was the house of Scotland's first gunpowder mill, at the Gore Water, that began running in 1794. Gorebridge has a yearly Gala Day which always happens on the 3rd Saturday in June. This is much like a community fair, with rides and games. The gala day has a custom of selecting a Town King and also Queen from the primary schools. Gorebridge has 4 primary schools, Gorebridge Primary, Stobhill Primary, St Andrews RC Primary as well as Gore Glen Primary. Greenhall High school used to serve the community however closed down in 1994. Neighborhood children now attend neighboring Newbattle Community High School, Lasswade Secondary School or St David's RC High School. Gorebridge's neighborhood football group is juniors Arniston Rangers that play house video games at Newbyres Park. On 6 September 2015 Gorebridge saw the return of the Waverley Line with a brand-new station improved the site of the initial station. This provides rail access to the Borders and Edinburgh Waverley train terminal. In the Gore Glen there is a shallow cave, named "The King's Cave".
