Kenilworth
Kenilworth is a town and civil parish in the county of Warwickshire. It is situated on Finham Brook, a tributary to the River Sowe, which joins the River Avon almost two miles north-east of the centre of the town. The 2011 Census documented that the town has a population of 22413. Being five miles south-west of Coventry's city centre, Kenilworth is characterised as a dormitory town for commuters to Coventry, alongside to other nearby cities and large towns, such as Birmingham and Leamington Spa. Although it is near to the University of Warwick in Coventry, the student population of the town stays relatively modest, consisting primarily of postgraduate students and staff at the university. The town is especially popular for the ruins and beautiful gardens of Kenilworth Castle, which was founded around 1120 in the Norman period, but continued to be lived in until the end of the Tudor period. Since 1983, Kenilworth Rotary Club has arranged a fun run in June in between Warwick Castle and Kenilworth Castle, referred to as the 2 Castles Run, which brings in increasing numbers of attendees, with 3000 entrants in 2010 and 4000 in 2011. Kenilworth Abbey in Abbey Fields Park, St. Nicholas' Parish Church, and Kenilworth Clock, along with The Cross, a Michelin Star pub, are also attractive areas for travelers and visitors to the town.
