Alexandria is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The town is positioned on the River Leven, four miles (6 km) north-west of Dumbarton. In 2001, the population of the town was 13,444. It's the largest town in the Vale of Leven. Alexandria developed on account of the textile market. In 1715, the first bleachfields in the area were established at Dalquhurn, attracting seasonal labour from Argyll.
