Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London within the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established following the sale of land in 1881 to build the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name stems from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby home and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Currently, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, via Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains per hour during the week; on Sundays, there are four trains every hour. The railway station was openedto stimulate the development of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed many people.
As well as the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, 1 of which goes to the popular Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are hardly any shopping or leisure opportunities inside the town, so people often visit surrounding areas employing public transport links or the primary roads.
Barnehurst is dwelling for the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
