Faringdon is a historical market community in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, England. Within the historical borders of Berkshire, it is 18 miles (29 km) south-west of Oxford, 10 miles (16 km) north-west of Wantage and also 12 miles (19 km) east-north-east of Swindon. It is a large parish, its lowest parts encompassing the River Thames in the north and also its greatest ground reaching the Ridgeway in the south. Faringdon was the westernmost town in Berkshire till the 1974 limit adjustments transferred it to Oxfordshire. The civil parish is officially Great Faringdon to distinguish it from Little Faringdon in West Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census offered a population of 7,121. On 1 February 2004, Faringdon was given Fairtrade Town status, as the very first Fairtrade Town in South East England. It is the base for Faringdon Enterprise Gateway, which assists and advises organisations in country west Oxfordshire.
