Westcliff-on-Sea is a suburban area of Southend-on-Sea, a seaside resort and also unitary authority in Essex in south-east England. It gets on the north coast of the reduced Thames Estuary, about 34 miles (55 kilometres) eastern of London. The major buying area in Westcliff-on-Sea is Hamlet Court Road, where the chain store Havens, established in 1901, stayed the anchor store until its closure in 2017. Hamlet Court Road took its name from a manor house called the Hamlet Court, which stood on land now inhabited by Pavarotti's restaurant and adjacent shops, facing towards the sea with sweeping gardens down to the rail line. The road later developed into a solid independent retail area as well as promptly became famous outside the area as the Bond Street of Essex. There were numerous haberdashers and also professional stores, and also it was not as well uncommon to see chauffeurs waiting on their employers to emerge from the stores.
