Artificial Grass in Westbury

Artificial grass is a great alternative selection to a natural lawn. It needs very little upkeep as you will not have to mow it or deal with mud during the winter. Nowadays, artificial grass is made up of fibres and infills of a mixture of sand and granules of recycled rubber. They've generally been used in industrial conditions, but are becoming more and more well-liked in people’s properties. It is possible to lay artificial grass on virtually any surface, regardless of whether it's flat or sloping. It is safe for children and pets, plus it drains like genuine grass so you won’t end up with puddles. It’s environmentally friendly as you will not need to water it and there is no requirement to treat it with pesticides or feeds. You should get up to 20 years out of your artificial grass with no upkeep and hassle. It will not fade or flatten over time, and it will retain its colour right till the end of its life. If you require a local pro to lay artificial grass for you, simply fill out the form and we’ll place you in contact with as much as 4 contractors who will provide you with a no cost, no obligation quote.

Westbury

Westbury is a town as well as civil parish in the west of the English region of Wiltshire. It lies in the much west of Wiltshire, near to the boundary with Somerset. It rests at the north-western edge of Salisbury Plain, 18 miles (29 km) southeast of the city of Bath, around 5 miles (8.0 km) south of the area town of Trowbridge and 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometres) north of the garrison community of Warminster. Other neighboring towns and cities consist of Frome, Devizes, Salisbury and Bristol. According to the 2011 Census, the community has a permanent population of around 14,709 individuals. In the past, Westbury was sometimes referred to as Westbury-under-the-Plain to distinguish it from various other towns of the same name. Snuggled under the north-western bluffs of Salisbury Plain, it is here that the community's most popular feature can be seen: the Westbury White Horse. It is often declared in your area that the White Horse was initially cut into the chalk face as long back as the year 878, to celebrate the triumph of Alfred the Great over the Danes in the Battle of Eðandun. Nonetheless, scholars believe this to be a creation of the late 18th century, and also no evidence has actually yet been found for the existence of the equine before the 1720s. Westbury centres on its historic marketplace, with the 14th-century churchyard of All Saints' Church behind it. All Saints' has a hefty ring of bells, an Erasmus Bible, and also a 16th-century clock without face built by a regional blacksmith. The west home window of the church was contributed by Abraham Laverton, who also built Prospect Square in 1869 as well as the nearby Laverton Institute in 1873. For all of your home enhancements, make sure to recognize reliable professionals in Westbury to make certain of high quality.

FAQs

Can you hoover artificial grass?
While you might see some people hoovering their artificial grass, it’s not recommended. Using a household vacuum cleaner on your artificial grass could suck up and remove the blades of grass, creating patches and making it look as bad as a balding natural lawn. Also, artificial grass blades are made from tough plastics like nylon and polyurethane. The blades could easily clog up your hoover and damage it, so it’s best to steer clear of using it to clean your artificial turf. What can I use instead of a vacuum cleaner? A good old rake or broom can get rid of leaves and debris from your artificial grass, but you may miss smaller pieces like pet hair or sand and gravel. If you have a leaf blower, you can use this on a low setting – but be careful as you could blow away the sand infill that keep your artificial lawn looking springy and fresh. Luckily, there are artificial lawn power brooms available to buy, and this could be a good option over hoovering your artificial grass. They are electrically powered brushes that push away dirt rather than sucking it up, and they can even plump your lawn to keep it looking at its best. Even if you don’t hoover your artificial grass, it’s still likely that over time some sand infill will get carried away. To keep your lawn bouncy, ask your installer to top up the sand every now and again or have a go at doing it yourself.
How to clean artificial grass?
Choosing artificial grass instead of natural turf can save you a lot of time on garden maintenance. However, even artificial grass needs the odd clean every now and then to ensure it stays looking good and lasts a long time, so here are some top tips. Regular maintenance There are several ways to keep your grass in good condition. Try brushing your grass with a broom or plastic rake regularly to dislodge any dirt or debris. You could also use a leaf blower to remove any leaves, or a low-pressure hose to get rid of wetter dirt. Hopefully the weed membrane under the artificial grass will do its job, but if you do get any weeds you can use a water-based moss and weed killer – make sure the maximum pH is 8. When the weeds have died off, remove them as you would with any leaves or debris. Cleaning stains on your artificial grass If you spill a drink on your artificial grass, grab a paper towel and dab at it rather than rubbing it, as this will just work the stain into your grass. Rinse it with some water if necessary. If you notice a stain that’s been there for a while, mix a teaspoon of detergent with a pint of water in a bucket. Using a soft cloth or sponge, rub the solution onto the stain until it’s gone, and rinse with clean water. If the stain is sticky, water might not be enough to get rid of it. Try using a toothbrush to brush away the residue.
How to lay artificial grass?

Laying artificial grass is a popular project – it’s a great way to create a smart, low-maintenance garden. There are plenty of professionals around who are experts at installing artificial grass, but it’s possible to DIY too if you’re feeling confident.

Lots of homeowners choose to replace their existing turf with artificial grass, so lay it on soil. To do this, start by clearing the area of any greenery or turf. Then remove any extra soil to a depth of about 40mm. You might want to leave the centre of your area slightly higher than the edges for a more natural look.

Next, you need to add a weed membrane and a sharp sand sub-base. It doesn’t really matter which one of these you do first, but you might find it easier to lay the weed membrane first and then use the sand to weigh it down, to a depth of about 35mm. Use a rake and plank to make the sand level, and compact it with a plank and heavy hammer. It doesn’t need to be completely flat – gentle slopes are fine. The weed membrane should overlap joints by 300mm.

After you’ve done this, you can lay your grass. Roll it out, trim it to size and fasten it in place. Make sure the ends of the grass rolls are staggered so they don’t end in a line. Lay the artificial grass with the pile (the strands) leaning towards the house so it looks nice and full when you’re looking out from the house. If you’ve decided to use edging boards, you can nail the grass into the tops of the boards. Or, if you haven’t, use ground pins to anchor it into the soil. Brush the grass and you’re done!

How to cut artificial grass?
When you’re laying artificial grass, it’s pretty hard to not get some wastage somewhere. Whether you’re laying it up against a hard edge like decking or a patio or you’re fitting the artificial grass right up to a fence or wall, you’re probably going to have to cut it somewhere. So how do you do it without damaging the artificial grass?
  1. If you’re cutting artificial grass at a fence or wall, fold over the turf so you can see where the backing material meets the edge.
  2. Using a very sharp pen knife, cut the backing material into the perimeter, using it to guide the blade.
  3. Push the artificial grass back against fence or wall and check that you’ve cut away enough. It’s always best to err on the side of caution and cut less to begin with.
  4. When you’re happy, brush the pile to make it look natural.
Cutting up to a patio or decking If you’re installing artificial grass up to a patio or garden edge, you can use a pen knife to cut away just the outer tuft and the factory edge – that's the part of the backing material with no blades of grass attached to it. Cutting artificial grass to prepare for a seam If you’re cutting a piece of artificial grass to make a seam to join it to another piece, use your pen knife to cut away the outer 3 tufts and the factory edge. Top tip: Make sure you use a good quality, new and sharp blade to cut your artificial grass to get a nice clean cut and avoid fraying the edges of the backing material.
