Crickhowell is a town as well as community in southeastern Powys, Wales, near Abergavenny, and remained in the historic county of Brecknockshire. The name Crickhowell is taken from that of the nearby Iron Age hill fort of Crug Hywel above the town, the Welsh language name being anglicised by map-makers and also regional English-speaking individuals. The community lies on the River Usk, on the southern side of the Black Mountains and also in the eastern part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Considerable parts of the bordering countryside, over 20,000 acres (81 km2) create part of the Glanusk Park estate. A selecting ward in the very same name exists. This ward consists of The Vale of Grwyney area and also has a complete population of 2,801 as taken at the 2011 census. The present councillor is John Morris, a Liberal Democrat.
