Abbey Wood
Abbey Wood is a district of South East London within the London Boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley. It gets its name from Lesnes Abbey Wood, which used to be the property of the monks of Lesnes Abbey. It's placed south of Thamesmead and is 10.6 miles east of Charing Cross. Abbey Wood includes a population of no more than 24,000 and is said to be a quiet location.
The district is well-known with commuters; it has an average age of 34 and its railway station was built in 1849 and now it provides services to Charing Cross, Cannon Street and areas in Kent as a loop service. There are also buses that run to Thamesmead, Lewisham and Peckham.
Abbey Wood is recognised for its caravan park located amongst the Abbey Woods. The woods boasts a park and also a football pitch, and also the neighbouring Bostall Gardens and Bostall Heath provide a lot of sports facilities. Part of the woods is a site of special scientific interest since it has fossils going back as far as 23-66 million years ago.
