Barnehurst
Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London inside the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It is separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established after the sale of land in 1881 to develop the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name derives from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby home and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Currently, the railway station runs trains in between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, through Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains an hour in the course of the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains an hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the development of homes. The Barnehurst Estate was built in 1926 which housed several individuals.
Along with the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, 1 of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are not many purchasing or leisure opportunities in the town, so individuals often go to surrounding locations making use of public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is household to the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
