Fencing in Montacute

Are you considering getting fencing installed in Montacute? Using the Quotatis service you can compare as many as four fence companies in order to get the best deal available for the work you want.

Fencing is really important for all households no matter whether it's the front or back garden. From maintenance work to a total installation of new fencing, employing a trustworthy company is highly advised to get the best price available.

Fencing work as a perimeter to our properties and with an installation you'll increase security to your house preventing easy access to the back garden. Back garden fences are usually close to six feet high, which straight away will make it more difficult for intruders to gain entry.

Decorative fencing or wooden picket fencing will often be most appropriate for the front garden, where security isn't as paramount. Instead, you're more likely to select a front garden fence particularly for decoration and to add something different.

For whatever style of fencing you're looking to have installed, ensure that you make use of our totally free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Montacute.

Montacute

Montacute is a tiny town as well as civil parish in Somerset, England, 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Yeovil. The town has a population of 831 (2011 census). The name Montacute is thought by some to originate from the Latin "Mons Acutus", referring to the conically acute St Michael's Hill controling the village to the west. An alternative sight is that it is named after Drogo de Montagu, whose household originated from Montaigu-les-Bois, in the arrondissement of Coutances. Mortain held Montacute after 1066, Drogo was a close affiliate. The town is developed practically entirely of the local hamstone. From the 15th century until the start of the 20th century it developed the heart of the estate of the Phelips household of Montacute House. The village has a fine middle ages church, as well as was the site of a Cluniac abbey, the lodge of which is now an exclusive residence. At the centre of the town is a large square known as the 'Borough' around which are organized picturesque homes and a club, the Phelips Arms; there is a second public house and hotel situated in the town, called the King's Arms.

    FAQs

Do I need to tell my neighbours if I’m going to replace my fence?

It’s a good idea to talk to your neighbours before you start any work to avoid confusion along the way. But if the fence is definitely your responsibility and on your property, there’s no legal obligation to notify them. It’s also a myth that you need to erect a fence with the flush side without posts facing your neighbour’s property.

Fence ownership: who owns that garden fence?

When it comes to fence ownership and responsibility, this is often a subject of dispute between neighbours and understandably so. Owning a fence comes with a number of responsibilities such as arranging and paying for the maintenance and more. Therefore, if you’re not yet sure who owns the garden fence, then you’d probably want to have that sorted to make sure your property stays protected at all times. In this post, we’re going to give you an insight into some of the rules guiding fence ownership in order to help you make informed decisions. Let’s take a look!

There’s no rule of thumb on whether you own the fence on the right hand or the left hand side of your property. Therefore, if you’ve heard any “rules that states otherwise, you can fling that out the window because not everyone will own the left hand side to their fence. The first way to determine who owns the garden fence or which side of the fence you’re responsible for is simply by looking. Although this is not guaranteed or a definite way to determine ownership, it can go a long way to give you a good idea. As you would have expected, fences are most likely built on the land that belongs to the boundary’s owner with the further edge of the fence making the actual boundary. As a result, you can determine a fence ownership simply by identifying where the frames are.

Also, you can determine fence ownership using the title deeds for an official and accurate answer. A copy should be given alongside your paperwork which is received when purchasing your house.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.
