Fencing in Halstead

Interested in getting fencing installed in Halstead? With the Quotatis service you are able to assess up to 4 fencing contractors to get the very best deal available for the work you need.

Fencing is very important for all properties no matter whether it's the front or back garden. From restoration work to a complete installation of new fencing, working with a reliable company is highly advised to get the very best price available.

Fences act as a boundary to our properties and with an installation you'll add more security to your property and prevent easy access to the back garden. Back garden fences are usually close to six feet high, which straight away will make it more difficult for intruders to gain entry.

Decorative fences or wooden picket fencing will often be best suited for the front garden, where security isn't as vital. Instead, you're more likely to pick a front garden fence specifically for design in order to add something different.

For whatever type of fencing you're looking to have installed, be sure you make use of our free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Halstead.

Halstead

Halstead is a town and civil parish found in Braintree District of Essex in England. The town is bordering Colchester and Sudbury, in the Colne Valley. According to the 2011 Census, Halstead has a permanent population of 11906. The town originally grew on the hill to the north of the river. The name Halstead is claimed to have stemmed from the Old English 'hald' (sanctuary, shelter, healthy) and 'stede' (site, place or farm), meaning 'healthy farm' 'safe place' or 'place of haven'. The historic core of Halstead can be viewed on a walk up the market hill. There are a number of social, cultural and leisure options in Halstead. A river walk runs through the town from east to west, and just outside the town is Broaks Wood, a popular space for walking owned by the Forestry Commission. Halstead Public Gardens were formed in 1900 and is noted for its botanic exhibitions. Townsford Mill that traverses the river at the bottom of the town houses the Antiques Centre, with thousands of interesting pieces ranging from clothing to household objects. A historical society regularly holds month-to-month conferences, and a town museum attached to the town council offices features some historical artefacts and several items confined to regional interest. The Empire Theatre in Butler Road hosts periodic bingo nights. Halstead is also the home of Hume's Bakery, which opened in 1960, and continues to trade at the very same shop. Halstead's premier football club is Halstead Town F.C. The club plays in the 10th tier of the English football league system, in the Eastern Counties Football League Division One. The town is additionally the home of a cricket club and a rugby club that play regularly. For all of your home enhancements, be sure to identify reliable contractors in Halstead to make certain of quality.

    FAQs

Can I make my neighbour repair their fence?

For a lot of home and property owners in the UK, a common courtesy is being neighbourly and several people find it relatively easy to get along with the folks next door. However, for most individuals, where the major dispute arises most times is due to boundaries which can lead to impasse that may only be resolved through legal action. But since nobody wants that, when boundary issues become more than just passing a comment about the current condition of the fence, you may want to clue yourself up on what to do to get the desired action. If attempts have been made to talk to your neighbour to no avail, there are a couple of things you can consider to make “them next door repair their fence. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight on these things to help you make informed decisions. Let’s take a look!

Firstly, it should be stated that if the fence poses an immediate danger then the usual legalities doesn’t apply. In this scenario, you may need to report to the local council who’ll take the necessary action on your behalf.

    • Offer assistance. Since the cost of repairing a fence isn’t the cheapest thing to do, a lot of people might not be too eager to carry out this project and any friendly suggestion to do so may not be taken kindly. So if you feel that the this may be the issue, you can try offering some assistance to lessen the financial burden on your neighbour.
    • Put up your own fence. If all attempts fail, you can consider erecting your own fence. However, this must be on your own property and as close to the boundary as possible.
How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
    How to build a fence?

The best way to build a fence depends on what style it is, as different types have different components. However, fencing made up of posts and panels is pretty common. To put this up, you’ll need to start by measuring out and digging holes for your fence posts. Then you’ll need to fit the panels between them and use concrete to secure the posts in the ground.

Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.
