Fencing in Cockermouth

Are you considering getting fencing installed in Cockermouth? Using the Quotatis service you'll be able to look at as many as four fencing installers to get the top deal available for the job you want.

Fencing is important for all households whether it's the front or back garden. From repair work to a full installation of new fencing, working with a reputable contractor is highly recommended to get the best price available.

Fences act as a border to our households and with an installation you'll add security to your house and stop easy access to the back garden. Back garden fences are typically close to 6 feet high, which instantly will make it more difficult for intruders to gain entry.

Decorative fences or wooden picket fencing will often be most appropriate for the front garden, where security isn't as vital. Instead, you're more likely to opt for a front garden fence particularly for design and also to add something different.

For whatever type of fencing you're wanting to have installed, ensure that you make use of our totally free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Cockermouth.

Average Wooden fencing cost in Cockermouth

It will also differ among regions, so it's best to get a few quotes to see what the best price is in your area.

Cockermouth

Cockermouth is an ancient market town and civil parish in the Borough of Allerdale in Cumbria, England, so called due to the fact that it is at the convergence of the River Cocker as it flows into the River Derwent. The mid-2010 census estimates state that Cockermouth has a population of 8,204, increasing to 8,761 at the 2011 Census. Historically a part of Cumberland, Cockermouth is positioned outside the English Lake District on its northwest fringe. Much of the architectural core of the town remains unchanged since the standard medieval design was completed the 18th as well as 19th centuries. The regenerated market place is now a main historic emphasis within the community as well as mirrors events from its 800-year background. The community is prone to flooding and seasoned severe floods in 2005, 2009, and also 2015.

    FAQs

    How to build a fence?

The best way to build a fence depends on what style it is, as different types have different components. However, fencing made up of posts and panels is pretty common. To put this up, you’ll need to start by measuring out and digging holes for your fence posts. Then you’ll need to fit the panels between them and use concrete to secure the posts in the ground.

Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
What types of garden fencing are available?

There are quite a few different types of garden fencing that are readily available, so you’ll have plenty to choose from. If you’ve got a strict budget, waney edge panel fencing is a good option. It’s made up of horizontal wood strips and is generally the cheapest type of fencing. Another good option is closed feather-edge panels. These are a really strong type of fence, made up of concrete posts and panels of vertical strips of wood. You can also get more decorative types of fencing with combinations of vertical and horizontal wood strips.
