Windermere is a community as well as civil parish in the South Lakeland District of Cumbria, England. It has a population of 8,245 increasing to 8,359 at the 2011 Demographics, as well as exists regarding half a mile (1 kilometres) east of the lake, Windermere. Although the community Windermere does not touch the lake (it took the name of the lake when the train line was constructed in 1847 and also the station was called "Windermere"), it has currently grown together with the older lakeside community of Bowness-on-Windermere, though both preserve appreciable town centres. Tourism is prominent in the community due to its proximity to the lake and also neighborhood views. Boats from the piers in Bowness cruise around the lake, several calling at Ambleside or at Lakeside where there is a recovered railway. Windermere Resort opened up at the same time as the railway. The civil church includes both towns, the town of Troutbeck Bridge to the north and also a number of communities, consisting of Storrs to the south and Heaning to the eastern. Belle Isle as well as part of the lake are also within its limits.
