Ingatestone is a town in Essex, England, with a population of about 5,000. To the prompt north lies the town of Fryerning, and together the two develop the civil parish of Ingatestone and also Fryerning. Ingatestone exists within Metropolitan Green Belt land 20 miles (32 kilometres) north-east of London. The built-up area is mostly situated in between the A12 trunk road and the Great Eastern Main Railway Line. Today it is an upscale traveler village. The civil parish for the area is governed by Ingatestone and also Fryerning Parish Council. Since 1974 the town has been within the Borough of Brentwood, although in earlier times the parish became part of Chelmsford Rural area, Chelmsford Rural Sanitary District, as well as Chelmsford Poor Law Union. The village exists within the Chelmsford Hundred. Ingatestone has two conservation areas, one covering the train station and Station Lane, and the other protecting the central purchasing area of High Street.
