Berwick-upon-Tweed is a town in the county of Northumberland. It is the northernmost town in England. It's positioned 2.5 miles (4 km) south of the Scottish border, at the mouth of the River Tweed, on the east coast of the United Kingdom. It's about 56 miles (90 kilometres) south east of Edinburgh, 65 miles (105 kilometres) north of Newcastle upon Tyne and 345 miles (555 kilometres) north of London. The 2011 United Kingdom Census recorded Berwick's population as 12,000. A civil parish and town council were established in 2008. Berwick's origins are as an Anglo-Saxon settlement during the period of the Kingdom of Northumbria, which was annexed by England during the 10th century.
