North Berwick
North Berwick is a seaside community and previous royal burgh in East Lothian, Scotland. It is located on the south coast of the Firth of Forth, about 20 miles (32 kilometres) east-northeast of Edinburgh. North Berwick came to be a fashionable vacation resort in the nineteenth century because of its two sandy bays, the East (or Milsey) Bay and the West Bay, as well as continues to attract holidaymakers. Golf links at the ends of each bay are open to visitors. The dimension and populace of the community stayed fairly consistent until the 1970s, at which point housebuilding started in earnest around the periphery of the community, initially to the south (1950s-- 70s), then a series of major expansions to the west (1980s-present) along the line of the railway. There is talk of further growths concentrating on "affordable real estate" on the south side of the town. While the population may not have absolutely "blew up", home costs have. North Berwick continually appears at the top of nationwide residence cost surveys, and like-for-like costs approach Edinburgh. North Berwick was noted as the most expensive seaside community in Scotland in 2006, and also was 2nd to St. Andrews in 2009.
