Fairbourne
Fairbourne is a Welsh beach town. It lies on the coast of Barmouth Bay in Arthog area, to the south of the tidewater of the River Mawddach in Gwynedd, bordered by the Snowdonia National Park. It remains in a location noted by Gwynedd council for handled resort due to climbing sea levels. The area where Fairbourne currently is belonged to the historical area of Merioneth, and consisted mainly of salt marshes and somewhat higher grazing lands. Before development began in the mid 19th Century there were three ranches on the land. Before the seaside resort was constructed, the coastal area was referred to as Morfa Henddol, while the promontory outcrop currently occupied by the Fairbourne Resort was called Ynysfaig. Concerning 1865 Solomon Andrews, a Welsh entrepreneur, acquired the promontory. Over the following several years he developed a seawall for tidal defense and numerous homes. To facilitate this he built a horse-drawn tramway from the railway to the site in order to bring in structure materials, it was transformed to a steam railway in 1916. Sir Arthur McDougall (of flour making popularity) had been looking for a country estate, but when he discovered this area, he quickly conceived of it as a seaside resort. In July 1895 Arthur McDougall bought a considerable acreage from land speculators, which he bigger by additional whole lots the following year. He employed a building contractor in 1896 who began the development of a version seaside resort. Unusually for Gwynedd area, the village has no official Welsh-language name. Unlike most of Gwynedd, where Welsh is the majority language, English is the predominate language in Fairbourne with a lot of its citizens originating from or came down from those that came from England.
