Buxton is a spa town within Derbyshire. As it is on the edge of the county boundary, with Cheshire to the west and Staffordshire to the south, Buxton is often referred to as 'The Gateway to the Peak District National Park'. Traditionally a municipal borough, Buxton joined with other localities in 1974 to create the local government district and borough of High Peak in the county of Derbyshire. At 300 metres above sea level, Buxton is believed to be England's highest market town.
