Isle Of Barra
Barra is an island in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, and also the second southernmost populated island there, after the nearby island of Vatersay to which it is attached by a brief embankment. The island is named for Saint Finbarr of Cork. In 2011, the population was 1,174. Gaelic is extensively talked, and at the 2011 Census, there were 761 Gaelic audio speakers (62% of the population). The Isle of Barra is roughly 60 km2 (23 sq mi) in location, 11 miles (18 kilometres) long and 6 miles (10 kilometres) vast. A single-track roadway, the A888, runs around the coastline of the southerly part of the island adhering to the flattest land as well as offering the many seaside settlements. The inside of the island here is uneven and unoccupied. The west as well as north of the island has white sandy beaches including sand produced from marine shells adjoining the grassed machair, while the south east side has numerous rough inlets. To the north a sandy pensinsula runs to the coastline airport as well as Eoligarry.
