Carrickfergus
Carrickfergus, recognised locally and colloquially as "Carrick", is actually a huge town in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It's on the northern coast of Belfast Lough, 11 miles (18 km) from Belfast. The town possessed a population of 27,201 on the 2001 Census and takes its identity from Fergus Mór maEirc, the 6th century king of Dál Riata. It's County Antrim's oldest town and one of the earliest settlements in Northern Ireland in its entirety. Carrickfergus is the administrative centre for Carrickfergus Borough Council and forms an area of the Belfast Metropolitan Area.
