Guisborough
Guisborough is a market town and civil parish in the English county of North Yorkshire. It is within a unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland, and in the Trees Valley region of the North East of England. Primarily for ritualistic reasons, it remains in the ritualistic county of North Yorkshire. Held every Thursday and Saturday, along with on Tuesdays with the presence of a couple of stalls, Guisborough market has had a standout place in the history of the town. At the outset selling mostly cattle and livestock, the market eventually developed into a more regular market for such items as vegetables and fruit, clothing and flower stalls. It is held from the early morning to late afternoon on the cobbles that line Westgate, the principal shopping street. As a result of its spot around the ironstone mines of the North York Moors, the town also had a share in the prosperity of the Industrial Revolution. According to the 2011 Census, the permanent population of the town is around 17777. Serious residential growth took place during the 1960s and 1970s with the development of the chemical sector at Wilton and the steel industry at Redcar. With no large companies in the town, the town has transformed into a commuter town for Middlesbrough, with a number of inhabitants operating in the chemical plants spread around Teeside. Guisborough has a King George's Field in memory of King George V, and the town's football team, Guisborough Town F.C., plays on the King George V Ground.
