Single Double Glazed Window in Billericay

When changing your home's windows you don't necessarily have to complete the whole building. On occasions you may just require to have a single window replaced, maybe due to a damaged pane or for upgrading to double glazing.

It's common for people to change just one double glazed window. One factor that customers wish to replace one window is that the covered system inside has actually fallen short. You'll recognize if this has actually taken place since you'll have the ability to see condensation on the within glass, which gets frustrating because you can't clean it away. In this case, you can choose to simply replace the closed unit or the whole frame, which you might intend to do if it's looking past its best.

When you're changing just one double glazed window, if you understand the brand name of your existing windows you could ask your installer if they can resource the same ones. This will certainly help to keep them looking as similar as feasible, although if your existing windows are older you may notice some discolouration on the outside compared to the new one, as well as locks and drip vents may look various.

Changing just one double glazed window shouldn't take a certified window fitter long, as well as could set you back as little as ₤ 300. It's worth bearing in mind that all substitute windows need to be certified that they've been put in to meet building regulations, so you'll require to put on your local building control police officer who will come and also examine the job after that issue a certificate. If you ask an installer who is signed up with a self-certification scheme (like FENSA, CERTAS) to fit the window for you, they can issue the certificate themselves when they've finished the work.

We will give up to four Window Installer pros locally, that will offer quotes for the job you desire done. You'll get a property visit from specialists in Billericay that'll help you to select the right uPVC Single Window for your home before performing the installation. FAQs

Why are double glazed windows better than single glazed?

Double glazed windows are better than single glazed generally because they are more energy efficient. The clue’s in the name – double glazed windows have two panes of glass while single glazed windows only have one. In double glazed windows, there is a space between the two glass panes. This space is filled with inert gas or a tight vacuum, which helps to provide an extra level of insulation. That means that heat won’t escape your home easily, nor will it creep in, so you can keep your home at a more comfortable temperature.

The extra pane of glass also helps to increase your home’s security. Single glazing is pretty easy to smash through, whereas it will take much more effort to smash double glazing and will create more noise, so burglars might be put off.

Another reason why double glazed windows are better than single glazed ones is that they help to reduce noise. Of course, if you live by a busy road you’ll still hear some traffic noise, but it can be significantly reduced buy double glazing. In the same way that the inert gas in the middle of the two panes keeps heat in and the cold out, it also helps keep noise out.

With double glazing, you’ll also notice much less condensation. With single glazing, it’s common to see condensation on the inside of the windows, especially when the heating is on. This is because the outside of the window is cold, but the inside is warm. With double glazing, the insulation between the two panes stops there being such a difference in temperature between the inside and outside of the window.

Will a new double glazed window look different to existing ones?

It depends on a few factors whether a new double glazed window will look different to existing ones. If your existing windows are very old, perhaps 10 years or more, then it’s likely that there will be some small differences.

The first thing to remember is that your double glazing is exposed to the elements as soon as it’s installed. So over time, unless you’re very good at cleaning and maintaining your windows, they’re likely to look a bit dirty. Window frames that are south-facing may also become slightly discoloured from the sun, so if you install a new window right next to it you might notice a difference.

Also, there have been lots of technical advances in windows over the years. If your existing windows are significantly older, you might notice a difference in the handles on openers, and if your existing windows were installed before 2010 they might not have trickle vents, which is an extra strip on the inside of your window to keep air flowing through your home. While it’s not a legal requirement for replacement windows to have trickle vents if the original one didn’t, it’s a good idea to have them installed as they help prevent condensation and mould.

The only truly noticeably different elements to a new double glazed window compared with existing ones are likely to be on the inside, which might not be a problem for you if you only have one window in a room. However, if you know the brand of your existing windows, you can ask your window installer if they can source the same ones. Even if they’ve been updated slightly, the difference should be minimal.

How much does one double glazed window cost?
How much one double glazed window costs is based on a few factors. If you just want to buy the window to install yourself, it will cost less than if you want an installer to fit it for you. If you want to simply buy one double glazed window without installation it could cost anywhere between £100-£300. That’s for a simple casement window, but other types like sash or tilt and turn windows could cost more. It’s recommended that you get a reputable installer to fit your double glazed windows because they’ve had the relevant training and will be able to install it much more quickly. How much it will cost for them to install one double glazed window will very based on your location, the type of window, how difficult the window is to access and whether you choose standard white uPVC or a coloured or woodgrain effect. An average uPVC casement window might cost somewhere between £300-£400, while a dual turn window might cost between £550-£660 to install. Do you really need to replace the entire window? If it’s just the double glazing that needs replacing, for example if it’s misted up inside, this will cost much less. Most window installers or a glazier will be able to just replace the sealed unit inside, and that may cost as little as £250. It’s always best to get a range of quotes from reputable companies so you know you’ve got a great price and you’re sure you’ll get excellent service.

How long does it take to install one small double glazed window?

To install one small double glazed window, it will take anywhere between two hours and half a day. It will depend on whether one installer is fitting your window or two. And if you’re doing it yourself and don’t have any professional experience, it will take even longer.

When the window fitters arrive, they will make sure they’ve got safe access to the window and move any heavy furniture if they need to. Any good installer will lay down a dust sheet, but it’s a good idea to check that they’ve got one laid down before they start.

The first step any window installer will take is to double check the measurements of the new frame against your existing one. Hopefully it should match up, so then they’ll take the old window out. Then, they’ll insert the new frame into the aperture and bolt it into the concrete. They'll check it with a spirit level to ensure it’s even before moving onto the glass sealed unit.

The installer will place the glass into the aperture, then fit the beads to secure the glass in the frame. They’ll then use silicone and trim on the inside and outside to ensure the window looks perfect. You won’t be able to see where they’ve used sealants or trims because they’ll colour match them so it’s not noticeable. Then, they’ll tidy up all of their tools and the working area and let you know what needs to be done in terms of proving that the window meets building regulations. Most good installers are registered with a self-certification scheme, so will be able to issue a certification once the work is complete.
