However, there are DIY solar thermal panel kits out there that have everything you need to install them. If you get an MCS-registered company to install your solar thermal panels, you should expect to spend between £4,000 and £5,000. If you buy a solar thermal panel kit online, it will set you back between £1,500 and £2,000 - but you won’t be able to claim Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) payments. The RHI is a Government scheme that pays you for every unit of heat that you generate from renewable sources, including solar thermal panels. So how much do solar panels cost today? The cost of an average 4kW system on an average home will set you back between £4,500-6,500.
