Which commercial properties suit 11-50kW solar panels?

It’s vital to purchase a solar panel system that suits your property. If you’re investing in a solar panel system, it makes the most financial sense to get the biggest one possible. However, whether you can do this or not depends on budget and space.

Here’s an idea of how much roof or ground space you’ll need to install a few different sizes of commercial solar panel system.

Solar panel system size, No. of solar panels, Approximate area required

11kW, 44, 64m²

20kW, 80, 116m²

30kW, 120, 173m²

40kW, 160, 231m²

50kW, 200, 288m²

How to repair a boiler leak?

If your boiler is leaking, there are some checks that you can do yourself. However, you should never attempt to repair your boiler yourself – only a Gas Safe-registered engineer should conduct repairs.

There are 3 main reasons why your boiler might be leaking: there’s a pressure valve fault, a temperature valve leak or corrosion in the system. An engineer will be able to spot the problem quickly, but in the meantime there are a few things you can do:

Check the pipe fittings

If your boiler is leaking water around the pipe fittings, it could be an installation fault and you should get in touch with the engineer that fitted it. You can check the pipe fittings by drying the area then waiting to see if the water appears again. If it does, you may be able to do a ¼ turn of the pipe to stop it. However, you should still call the engineer that installed it to ask them to check the PTFE tape on the inside.

Inspect the seals

Over time, the rubber seals on a boiler can start to perish, so if you have an old boiler this could be the source of your leak. If you have a new boiler, it could be caused by your boiler running over pressure.

Heat exchanger corrosion

Unfortunately, if a boiler engineer discovers that the boiler is leaking water from the heat exchanger, this is the end of the road for your system. The heat exchanger is the most expensive part of your boiler, so it makes more financial sense to replace your boiler with a newer, more efficient model rather than try to replace it.

Will my patio need a lot of maintenance?

Patios do not require lots of maintenance. They will only need occasional cleaning to make sure that the material keeps its original appearance. It's always best to clean your patio with a pressure washer and occasionally tap each slab or brick just to check the sand underneath hasn't washed away.

Which driveway surfacing materials are permeable?

Gravel, asphalt, concrete and paving can all be permeable. However, some types of asphalt and concrete are impermeable. This is why it’s important to be precise about what material you want for your driveway. If you want a permeable driveway, you should also make sure that your sub-base is also permeable.

When's the best time to get driveway work done?

Driveway work is usually done in the warmer half of the year. This is partly to avoid bad weather. If you want to get ahead and avoid waiting for a contractor to be free, you should try getting in touch with a professional in the early spring so a date can be booked for install as soon as practically possible.

Can you put paint in a skip?

There are a wide range of household rubbish and wastes you can put in a skip. But unfortunately though, paint cans and leftover paints isn’t one. Furthermore, not only is a liquid paint restricted from skips and landfills, but they are also banned by the council. Frustratingly, because it’s hazardous to the environment and blockages it can create in the pipe, pouring paint right down the drain is never an option as well. So what then is the best way to get rid of your leftover paint? Surprisingly, you have quite a number of options which we’ll share with you.

• Is the paint unused and unopen? For unopened paints, you can simply return them back to the seller either for an exchange or for a refund. Obviously, this will require a receipt and if unavailable, then you might want to consider the other options below.

• Is it just little paint leftover? Since it has been specifically banned from skips and it’s just a small amount of paint, you can get a bit creative with the disposal method. Simply get a cardboard or other papers, paint it with the remaining paint and dry it out. Once dried, you can then dispose the cardboard or paper alongside other permitted wastes in the skip.

• Is it a large amount of paint? For large amounts, you can contact some of your friends or family who might need it to get the paints off your hands. If you are unable to dispose any or all, there are online platforms like Freegle or Freecycle where there are people willing and ready to get leftover paints in large quantities.

• Is it unusable? If positive, then the giveaway option is completely neutralized. The best bet here is to leave your paint out to dry if it has gone past its usable days, then take it to a household waste recycling centre.

how to fit bathroom wall panels?

It is crucial to make the walls of your bathroom waterproof, and bathroom wall panels or bathroom cladding is not only a great way to do that, but its also the easiest way to update the look of your bathroom. When it comes to adding wall panels to your bathroom, there are a large selection of designs to choose from which means you’ll always find something that’ll suit your space. So how do you have them installed? With this brief guide, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the bathroom panels installation. Let’s have a look!

  1. Get the right tools and supplies. You’ll require a handsaw, jigsaw, or circular saw, hacksaw, drill, hammer, 1200mm spirit level, sealant gun, suction cups and tape measure.
  2. Prepare the bathroom. Ensure that the bathroom walls are degreased, clean and, dust and dirt free. Also make sure that its flat and even with a spirit level.
  3. Make sure a fixing method is in place. If not, make use of treated battens as a fixing method. Fit all battens in such a way that’s plumb and parallel.
  4. Fit the shower tray. Take a measurement of the shower tray to identify the length of the seal strips that is needed while also making room for the shower screen.
  5. Add the seal strips.
  6. Cut the panels to size. Mark the bathroom wall panels and cut to get the right measurement in both height and width. Also ensure to make room for pipe and shower head holes at this point.
  7. Install the panels.
How do I choose an architect?

It’s important to take plenty of time choosing your architect. They can have a significant effect on how successful your project is, so you’ll find it’s worth it in the long run.

Ideally, you’ll want the architect you choose to have plenty of experience in commercial property design and project management. If the building you’re creating or extending is for a particularly unique purpose, you may want to try to find a professional who has worked on a similar property before.

It’s also a good idea to use customer reviews to help you choose a commercial architect. If a company you’re considering doesn’t have any online reviews, ask them to supply you with testimonials or show you examples of their work.

Don’t forget that it’s vital to get on with your architect. You’ll need to communicate effectively to make sure that your project turns out the way you want it to, and you may be working together for a while. So, it’s a good idea to meet and speak with any commercial architects you’re considering before you go ahead and hire one.
