Why hire a handyman?

There are a bunch of things a handyman can do around the house, so if you’re looking for a reason to hire one, you’d definitely find plenty. First and foremost, a handyman is basically a well versed, skilled and experienced professional who possesses the ability to carry out a plethora of tasks as well as repairs. While not all local authorities require handymen to have a license or carry an insurance policy, some handymen do have insurance. Generally, their rates vary based on their experience as well as specialities.

Handymen are able to handle a multitude of potential jobs in and around the house. These ranges from small tasks, installations, assembly, indoor or outdoor building or repair jobs. They are available to help out with a wide array of odd jobs around the home at a very reasonable price. So, what are some of the jobs a handyman can do in a home? Let’s take a look!

  • Odd jobs. This encapsulates any small job you’d want done around the house. It could be a repair, installation or maintenance task.
  • Gutter cleaning and repair. The idea of cleaning a gutter may seem hassle free, but there can be a couple of difficulties which includes the use of ladders and the risk of falling. When you hire a handyman to do this task, he does not only clean but also check for any damage or repair needs and much more.
  • Painting. If you’re not able to handle some of your painting projects or perhaps you’re just not confident of how its going to turn out, it may be in your best interest to reach out to a skilled handyman.
  • General carpentry and home repairs, these includes shelving, cabinets, bookcases, baseboards, framing, doors, countertops, moulding and more.
Who is responsible for graffiti removal?

First and foremost, there exists a common argument which revolves around graffiti. While some particular set of people believe that graffiti is vandalism and a punishable offence, other believe it’s actually a form of art which should be encouraged for more to be done. There exists some graffiti with great value, however it must be stated that not all (if not most) graffitis are pleasing to the eye. If you happen to live in an environment that’s rife or perhaps your very own property is vandalized, the detracting aspects of graffiti can be highly frustrating. Therefore, if graffiti is carried out on a property without the consent or permission of the property owner, then this is considered to an illegal act. If you have one done on your property, you’d probably want to know who will be responsible for the graffiti removal. So, who is responsible to removing graffiti which suddenly shows up? Although there are varying rules in various councils, the general rule of thumb is the person responsible for graffiti removal is owner of such property. In other words, if it happens to be on your personal or business property then it’s your responsibility to have it cleaned. However, if it appears on a public or council property, then it’ll be the responsibility of the council to have it removed.

You can report any form of graffiti on your property, but different councils have their unique ways for making such reports. For instance, the City of London offers an app dedicated to help home or property owners report both vandalism and fly tipping. Other states may provide phone numbers and email addresses where you report graffiti to the authorities.

How to build a shed base on uneven ground?
Building a shed base on uneven ground can be as easy as digging out a sub-base and checking that it’s level. You can dig down until the soil is light brown and rather compact, then work out where the ground is uneven and move soil around to compensate. Add a weed-blocking membrane down then put plastic grids in to act as your shed base or continue to make a sub-base for paving slabs or concrete. However, you could also build a timber shed base on uneven ground using concrete blocks to level it out.
  1. Mark out the area and dig the top layer of soil, trying to get the ground as flat as possible.
  2. Build a timber frame to size.
  3. Measure out 4 rows of 3 blocks to create good weight distribution and lay in place.
  4. Underneath each block, dig around 50mm wider than the blocks and about 150mm deep. Fill the hole with pea gravel until it’s flat.
  5. Place timber planks along the rows of blocks and see how level it is. Add or remove blocks where necessary. If it’s only a small difference, use shingle underneath the timber until it’s level.
  6. Nail your timber shed base to the timber planks to create a sturdy base for your shed.
If you’ve got any questions about building a shed base on uneven ground, it’s best leaving it to the pros. Get in touch with a range of builders who will be able to offer you a quote.

Your gutter needs to be free of dead leaves, birds’ nest and other debris as well as being through clean in order to perform its functions effectively. It’s just a part of the responsibilities that comes with owning a home. Dry leaves, tree branches and other materials build up in your gutters overtime especially during the dry summer and you won’t notice until the point where your gutters start overflowing during the first main rain of the season.

In the event whereby your dirty and clogged gutter is left unattended to, this can lead to several issues like a leaky gutter and mold, leaky roof and basements, cracked foundation, driveway and yard damage and several more which will definitely make you incur more unnecessary expenses. According to several experts, gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year - which is once in the late spring and once in the late summer or early fall. However, there are a couple of factors that may make you have a rethink.

This is because pine trees shed needles year-round and they usually have a lot of these needles to shed. In the situation whereby you’re located at a higher elevation, ice is will most likely be your greatest source of concern. Making sure that your gutters remain clean throughout the winter can be quite a headache, but damage to your roof cause by ice can be an even greater pain. Prevention is always better than cure.

They’re designed in such a way to protect your home or property from serious water damage, but keeping them clean and in good condition is something that’s almost always forgotten or ignored. Do not be deceived even when rain water is still running from them or they don’t appear to be clogged. Failure to clean maintain your gutters can lead to a wide range of outcomes and they aren’t so pretty. According to experts, gutter cleaning should be done twice a year - once in the spring and once in the fall. In order to help you realize the importance of cleaning your gutters, we’ll look at some of the possible outcomes of a neglected gutter.

  • Leaky roof. If your gutters get clogged and cannot move water away from your home, it begins to build up on the roof and eventually lead to damages like rot and mold. As the damages spread, the end result could be a severe damage to the attic and supports.
  • Damaged foundation. If the gutters are not functioning as they should, water saturation becomes a great threat to the foundation of your home or property. The concrete will crack or wood rots and you can also end up with mold.
  • Creepy crawler infestation. Wherever you have stagnant water, there are also bugs. This is because they love the wet and moisture-filled gutters. You get unwanted visitors like carpenter ants, roaches and mosquitoes, just to mention a few.
  • Driveway and path damage. When the downspouts aren’t directing the water to the appropriate spot, the excess that comes in contact with these surfaces can lead to cracks or sagging.
how to clean gutters from the ground?

Keeping water away from your house is of great importance and hence, the installation of a roof guttering system to serve this purpose. However, in order to perform this task effectively and seamlessly, there’s a need to clear out the clogging dirt and debris from the gutter and ensure it’s free from water-blocking obstacles at all times. Although there are a number of ways to achieve this, but the major cause of concern for several home and property owners is having to work at heights or on top of a ladder to get the job done. This is a very dangerous endeavour especially if you do not have the confidence required to pull it off. As a result, we’d strongly recommend you hire the services of a reliable professional who possess the skills when it comes to working at heights and delivering a highly effective clean. Fortunately, there are a couple of ways you can get to clean your gutters without having to climb any ladders. Let’s take a look!

  • Clean the gutter with a leaf blower. Several leaf blowers feature a nozzle attachment which is made to release a narrow stream of air which is suitable for cleaning of gutters. You don’t need a ladder to do the clean as a specialized attachment is available in order to increase the blower’s reach to your roof effortlessly. The final step would be to remove any lingering leaves or twigs using a hose.
  • Clean the gutter with a wet or dry vacuum. For heavier debris, you can try out a wet or dry vacuum. To reach the obstructed gutters while standing on the ground, simply get curved attachments and hoses at a local home improvement store. You may, however, need to moisten some stubborn dirt before it can be properly vacuumed or removed.after completing the vacuuming process, simply flush the gutters with garden hose waters.

do fitted wardrobes add value to your home?

The short and simple answer is yes, fitted wardrobes add value to any home or property. Owning a home is mostly the single most expensive asset that a person can possess. And as a result, your home is a very special asset that you’d want to make conducive and maintain to the best of your ability. To retain the value of your home or even add to it, you have to learn how to maximize its potentials using different means. In the UK, a big issue for most households is usually the lack of storage space and most especially, the quickly shaped bedrooms which is really affected with storage problems. It almost always seems like there isn’t enough space to keep our clothes as well as the never-ending portfolio of accessories, devices and gadgets. Therefore, an extra or excess usable room inside a home is always a premium.

In other words maximizing the space you have, especially the unused ones, is a great way to add value to your property. Custom made fitted wardrobes are a great means to making the most out of the space within your home and are also designed to last for several years. Unlike the freestanding wardrobes, modern and fitted wardrobes are not only visually appealing, but they’re also customizable to fully maximize every inch of space within the room. As a result, they’re the ideal solution especially for loft rooms where the bedroom may be slope or oddly shaped to make the best out of the space available.

Potential investors are always eager to invest in homes with enough space that are well maximized. Therefore, a fitted wardrobe will not only help you create a better demand for your home at the point of selling, but it’ll also go a long to increase its value in so many ways.
