About SELECT
SELECT is a Scottish trade association for the electrical contracting industry. Founded in 1900 as The Electrical Contractors’ Association of Scotland, SELECT became the first electrical trade association in the world.There are 1,200 members of SELECT, and each member must work to its strict criteria. SELECT members have skills in a range of areas, including design, testing and commissioning. They are all accredited to at least one technical discipline. SELECT members account for 90% of all electrical installation work carried out in Scotland and employ 15,000 people.
SELECT represents the electrical contracting industry to the government and influences legislation. It aims to create conditions which enable its members to provide good service to their customers.
SELECT gives the consumer confidence in the work that its members carry out. It leads industry standards and ensures that its members are carrying out high quality and safe work. SELECT backs its members with a Code of Practice, Contract Completion Guarantee and a customer complaints service, so customers have peace of mind that they have protection if anything goes wrong.
Training and development is important to SELECT. At its headquarters near Edinburgh, SELECT offers training in many different technical and managerial skills. Members can also complete a course in health and safety through SELECT’s Electrotechnical Certification Scheme. They can use the certificate to update their ECS card, and it also allows clients to see that they carry out their work in the safest manner possible.
