The Painters and Decorators Association (PDA) is the largest trade association for the painting and decorating industry and has been encouraging high standards since 1894. Members include individual traders as well as large national contractors who offer a wide range of services. The PDA is a non-profit organisation which means that it reinvests the money from membership fees and associate support into the organisation. This helps it to gain national and international representation. The PDA has relationships with local and national government along with training bodies to maintain standards, and it promotes new initiatives and legislation in the industry. Customers can therefore trust that PDA members are highly skilled and trained in their trade.
Members of the PDA must observe the PDA Code of Practice which outlines their commitment to professional workmanship and fair practice. Affiliation with the PDA gives the customer peace of mind, as it offers an arbitration reconciliation service should anything go wrong. The PDA offers vast amounts of training so it assures customers that it is constantly assessing its members for their competence.
There are many processes that traders must go through to become a member of the PDA. They must have all the relevant qualifications and experience, and be able to prove that they have been trading under their business name for over a year. Members must also provide several references, and customers can leave feedback about a member to increase their reputation. All PDA members must have Public Liability Insurance by law and any member would be happy to produce evidence of this. Customers can trust PDA members to carry out all painting and decorating work in a skilled and professional manner. They can use PDA’s ‘Find a Decorator’ search engine to search for a contractor according to the job they need doing.
