About National Institute of Carpet and Floorlayers
The National Institute of Carpet and Floorlayers (NICF) aims to promote excellence in the field of carpet fitting and floor laying. It also tries to endorse understanding and awareness of the British Standards Code of Practice for the installation of textile floor coverings, and to provide assurance of the quality of tradespeople to the public.

The NICF formed the Flooring Industry Training Association, FITA, in partnership with the Contract Flooring Association. They set up a state of the art training facility and courses run there throughout the year. The courses are available to newcomers as well as experienced members who want to improve their skills, so customers can feel confident that members are consistently trained.

The NICF is a highly respected institute and is active in promoting skilled floorlayers. This reassures customers that NICF members are competent in their trade. There are different levels of NICF membership, and as members progress they are expected to fulfil more criteria, such as completing examinations and being continually re-assessed.

Consumers can visit the NICF’s website to search for NICF member fitters. Only members that consistently fulfil all the membership criteria are permitted to stay on the NICF register, so customers can be confident in an NICF member they choose from the website.
