About National Federation of Builders
The National Federation of Builders (NFB) is a trade federation which represents small to medium-sized builders, contractors and house builders in England and Wales. It represents the building profession and provides its members with credibility so consumers know they are hiring reputable tradespeople.

The NFB also campaigns on issues that impact the construction industry, such as utilities, sustainability and funding. It represents the industry at high level government and is a policy influencer. One of its long-running campaigns is the ‘Stay Safe, Stay Away’ campaign which is seeking to educate children on why they should not play on construction sites.

Members can display the NFB logo on vehicles, websites and corporate literature. This helps customers to see that the contractor’s business is reputable and endorsed by a national trade association.

Customers benefit from using an NFB builder as it provides some tips on its website for choosing a good builder. It tells customers to avoid ‘VAT-free’ deals as there will be no valid contract without proof of payment, and it suggests that they ask to see the builder's insurance and offers a guarantee. The NFB offers a search facility on its website so customers can find a member builder, and advises that the customer obtains quotations from at least three builders. Once the builder has completed the work, the NFB’s complaints procedure, which aims to resolve any issues between a member and the client, protects the customer.
