About FENSA
The Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme (FENSA) was set up by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and other industry bodies. This was in response to building regulations for double glazing companies in England and Wales.

Homeowners must adhere to current thermal performance and building regulation standards when replacing windows, doors and roof lights in England and Wales. They must ensure that they get a certificate from a competent person scheme such as FENSA or Local Authority Building Control. FENSA allows companies that replace windows and doors to self-certify compliance under the building regulations without the need for a separate assessment from Building Control.

It is beneficial for consumers to look for the FENSA logo when having windows and doors fitted because:

• They don’t need to register the installation with the local authority themselves. The FENSA approach is faster, cheaper and easier

• There is no need to arrange an assessment from Building Control

• FENSA vets all potential members before they join and they have to pass strict assessments

• Customers can provide feedback for the installer they choose

An independent report commissioned by the Government found that FENSA is the most successful competent person scheme in the UK. Consumers, local authorities, industry and Government trust FENSA. It is the industry standard for replacement window and door installers to self-certify compliance.
