About Elecsa
ELECSA is a government-approved body for competent person schemes. It assesses contractors in the building sector, such as electrical, heating and hot water and oil. It also assesses contractors under the Green Deal and MCS; these are for people who wish to install renewable energy technologies.

ELECSA want to maintain and promote the best industry practice. 75% of its contractors are small, independent contractors. ELECSA aims to help these contractors gain the confidence and trust of UK householders.

ELECSA assesses contractors registered on its competent person schemes every year. This makes sure that they are working to the most up-to-date standards. If customers use an ELECSA contractor, ELECSA’s Platinum Promise covers their work. This means that if the ELECSA contractor’s work doesn’t meet the required building regulations or installation standards, the consumer will be protected and have support through a complaints resolution process.

Another benefit of using an ELECSA contractor is that they can self-certify that their work meets the Building Regulations. This saves the customer money as they don't have to tell the local authority about the work. These regulations are Part P of the Building Regulations, and cover most electrical installation work. Only minor electrical work is not covered in the regulations.

As well as auditing its contractors, ELECSA is subject to auditing itself. Independent assessors check to make sure that it is meeting the government requirements for operating its competent person schemes. This gives the consumer even more confidence that ELECSA contractors are competent to work in their homes.
